Reading, Writing, and Math
The kindergartners†will make†huge gains in their reading† this year. †It is vital that they know their letter and sounds, and it is nice to see many students entering kindergarten with these skills. †The eagerness these students have is very contagious! †I have a great group of parents and together we can provide a successful year built on mutual respect.

I am excited to implement our literacy programs. †In reading and writing the students work in small center groups on material that is challenging, yet not too frustrating. Each day we focus on a target. †This is the material I would like the students to learn during my lesson. † While in our reading centers, the targets focus on concepts that will provide the students with a strong foundation in reading. The writing targets focus on letter formation and then move into complete sentences. †I teach more challenging material as the students master these skills. †

One center requires student to work by themselves. After working with me, students are given an assignment to help reinforce the target of the day. Students complete this work in their reading and writing literacy journals. Over the years it has been amazing to see the huge amount of growth each child makes.

In math we explore many different concepts. † The kids use hands on materials, cooperative groups and receive small group instruction to better explain the material. †We have set the foundation for good number sense with lessons in addition, subtraction, number recognition, shapes, sorting, classifying, and much more. †
